Worth getting more RAM?

VMs can range on what OS you use.

W8 VM will prob be around 15 GB and server 2008 similar just for the OS alone. So depending on how much storage you have, its totally up to you. 256GB wouldnt be enough for me especially if I am running VMs.

For memory couldn't you just get another 2x 4gb sticks?

Thanks, I'll look at the exact model of what I have when I get home, and see if I cannot just buy 2 more sticks as you suggest. I'd rather go for an SSD as I currently have it on a 1TB mechanical drive and it's very sluggish. I can't see me setting up many VMs so 256 would suffice for. It's just for to play around with and set up a virtual server and couple of clients to learn SCCM and improve my skills on Group Policy deployment.

Even at £65? It's quite old as well, would it be better to go for 2x8gb even if it's at £140? My i2500k is OC'd to 4.4ghz - would have all 4 slots occupied cause problems with the OC?

Depending on how many VMs you plan to run at the same time, you might just be fine with what you have. I run multiple Linux/Windows VMs every now and again with 8GB so while it's a little bit of a squeeze with more than one open it runs fine.

Might be worth having a play before investing into more RAM :)

Edit: Sorry, just read the whole thread and saw you already have :)
