Im building a new pc. wondering is the Q9450 worth buying or should I get a Q6600?
My brother just got a Q6600, and machine just fresh still takes so long to start up XP 64. My mums laptop loads vista home premium faster, lol.

So which to buy?

Thanks

You can't judge a processors speed by how long it takes an O/S to load?

Anyway the Q9450 seems to be a nice processor, still a bit pricey but what can u expect since its brand new.

If you want an older G0 Q6600 then try to pick one up second hand.

Most avereage users only really need a Dual-Core unless you run some very CPU intensive tasks like video encoding, 3D rendering, Folding@home etc etc.

Thats right wayne, xp load times are more dependent on the motherboard.

you cannot choose one chip over another just because you mums laptop loads up vista quicker than you mates pc, thats just silly.

There can be many things affect boot up time on either machine, its not just soley based upon the CPU. I would say it depends on what your using your PC for, because the Q9450 isn't available in any decent quantities yet and carries a £100 premium in most cases over the Q6600.

Thanks guys. I hope I get a good mobo too then.
Ill stick with the Q6600.

Yeah. I just find it strange, my mums lil £300 laptop starts vista super fast. and my brothers brand new, q6600 asus motherboard pc takes ages.
Gotta get a good mobo, and that has sli for my 2 8800 gtx's.
