Currently have:

Winnie 3000 @ 2.57ghz (285X9)
asus a8n-sli (although have a spare premium lying about)
2 X 1gb corsair cl2 pc3200
6600GT

Use it for all the normal stuff, everything is ok...just when im converting videos or doing a few things at same time it does get a little bit slow, but nothing big

im just wondering is it worth waiting for the new amd thing, AM2, or will it not be much of an improvement, so is it better to go x2/opteron now, and will i see improvement?

on side note, if yes to go dual, is it ok to jus put in the asus-sli, or shall i stick it in the premium as i have it spare?

Ive got a single core opteron @ 2.7Ggz, I was going to get a dual core, but decided to wait for AM2 to come out, and 939 prices to plummet, just like socketA did when 939 was released.
so you're going to get 939 dual core when am2 comes out, not am2?

As to an answer to your question, you are already touching 2.6Ghz with your Winnie... Going dual core for you will be close to a waste of money unless you go really high end, and even then, you wont benefit unless you actually need the extra benefits a dual core will give you, and at 2.6Ghz, it wont give you as much as you would think.
ok so basically i should just wait for am2/conroe then
