Time has come to replace my 2009 iMac. Now I've ruled out the Mac Pro because given the options I want it gets a little to pricey...so it's the top on the line 27" iMac, Core i7 and a fusion drive.

My question is: is it worth the money to go to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB over the 775? Not the biggest gamer but the iMac will be doing lots of video rendering.

Oh and yes there *could* be new iMacs in autumn with the releas of Yosemite but if you waited for rumoured releases you'd never by anything!

In my opinion, the extra vRAM on a consumer card (and mobile chip at that!) would not make much of a difference when you're comparing to the industry grade GPUs used for rendering.

But then it's not exactly easy to upgrade later so might be a good idea to go for it if you can!

The extra vRAM will help a bit for 1440p gaming.
