I have a Venice 3500 Single Core 939 CPU and i have been offered an AM2 3800 X2 CPU. Is it worth getting a new Mobo etc or should i stick with the Venice?

What do you use the pc for? How much do you have to spend, and how much is the x2 going to cost you?

Im swapping out a 3000 winchester for a 3500 venice later this week in my second pc which is great for web browsing and light gaming etc. But it doesn't compare to my dual core 4300 @ 3ghz (fair enough a lot quicker than the 3600 will be but dual core same idea).

Not costing me much. £20 off a mate. Just got to get a mobo and ram. Mate is buying my existing mobo and ram so, is it worth the swap? I won't be playing many games.

Cheers. Think i will take the plunge then. Would i notice much of a difference in games etc etc? Is it a cooler chip than the Venice?

AMD AM2 Athlon 64 3800+ Windsor Core, Dual Core 2GHz, 2x 512KB Cache, Energy Efficient Retail

Yeah go for it since he will buy the old kits off you. Although I'd probably will just flog the X2 3800+ on fleebay and use the money to get e2140 + asrock mobo + cheap DDR2.

*EDIT* no i don't think the normal AM2 chips are actually any cooler than their 939 counterparts, although the new 65nm ones and the energy efficient versions will be cooler.

I wouldn't bother I don't think. Save your pennies and get a cheap c2d and an asrock mobo so you can keep your current ram. £100ish and imo it will be much better.

Not really, clock for clock C2D wins...

But either way, overclocking a C2D is very easy, and you should get a nice boost, plus its the "newer" tech.

Yer but AMD have priced thier proccesors so that thier equal the INTELS, doesnt matter if C2D wins clock to clock if you not overclocking, and they cost the same for same performance. AM2 will also have even newer tech when the K10 cpu come out.

Not so much...

An E2160 is faster than a AMD cpu of the same price, I am pretty certain.

http://xtreview.com/review204.htm there is a review... not much in it, but still a bit faster.
