I currently have a q9550, 4gb corsair@1066Mhz and a 4870 1gb. I've been looking at the i7 4.00Ghz bundle thats on offer at the moment and have been wondering whether its worth the upgrade. I only really use my pc for gaming and web browsing so i'm wondering whether its a bit overkill, but then i like to play my games at their very best. What you reckon? and is there something better just round the corner?

I've been hearing theres 32nm die shrinks on the i7s, dx11 cards, integrated pci and memory controllers on the westmere cpus and not forgetting windows 7 later this year so i'm wondering whether to just do a big upgrade the end of the year maybe. Any advice will be much appreciated :)

Thanks

that is a genuine point.

However I will suggest that you add an HD 4890 to your setup.

Your Quad Core will benefit from it greatly.

they go cheap on OCUK

Thanks for the replies :) and by the way i already have a 4870 so i don't think I'd see that much of an improvement going to a 4890 would i? So basically shall i just keep my q9550 setup then? I'm looking into getting Arma 2 soon and was hoping an upgrade to a 4.00ghz i7 would be massive compared to my q9550 or am i under a wrong impression :S

the upgrade to the I7 920 @ 4 Ghz wouldn't improve things that much tbh definately not a massive difference.

So not a big difference in gaming then? I thought it would mean loads more fps in cpu intensive games likes arma 2 and supcom etc in comparison to my q9550.

I guess i'll try and stick with it then, i'm a bit disappointed with how arma 2 is running though, 20-60 usually on high/normal with 1680x1050. Are any i7 systems out there performing much better than that? As i might just go for one if they do.

Thanks
