Is it worth getting a Blu-Ray drive on my PC if my monitor has a resolution of 1650 x 1050 becasue this is neither 720p or 1080p will it look pants?
anyone else watching HD stuff at this resolution? whats it like?

thanks

It should still look a lot better than DVD which has a max resolution of 720×576 according to wiki [ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvd_video].

Just because your monitor doesn't support the exact resolution doesn't mean it won't look good. I've played HD video on this monitor which has a similar resolution to yours and the difference is very obvious, you can see all of the pores and pits on the actors skin during close-ups and everything looks much sharper with excellent focus.

Personally I haven't invested in a blu-ray drive yet (just downloaded clips / streamed from NAS etc), but it shouldn't look 'pants'.

Do you have BD films already? Are you considering buying a drive and then building up a collection? I'm holding off on BD as whilst I'm sure it would look great on my panel, I watch films in my living room.

Check what newer movies you have on DVD and then look for their HD trailers in net...
And return to topic after you've compared HD trailer to DVD.

yeah my dads got about 30 but (when I want to watch transformers for the million'th time), i wondered if gettin my own blu ray driver wud be suitable at this res.

im guessing it would just play in 720p scale but i dont think watching things in 720p would justify the purchase when im used to watching 1080p.
