worth it ?

I would stick with what you have, I doubt you will notice any change much. Do you overclock your 720 ? that may be a better way of gaining some extra for no extra cost.

will not run stable over 3.2ghz for some reason , i thought the biostar ta790gx 128m overclocked these cpu's well ? . that is not the case for me :(

is it worth me changing from a phenom II x3 720BE to a phenom II x4 940/945 ?
I don't think so?

You've got a perfectly good processor, triple core, 6MB L3 cache, CPU Multi adjustable, deneb core . . . .what more do you want! :p

I've got a lesser processor than you, an Athlon II X3 Triple Core 425 (2.7GHz) and its a wonderful bit of kit, even at stock its fast and just gets better once overclocked. Have you tried to unlock the extra core?

BIOSTAR TA790GX 128M 5.x

  • AMD 790GX Chipset with ATI Radeon HD 3300 Graphics
  • AMD OverDrive™ with ACC feature (Advanced Clock Calibration) supported

That looks like a good board, I wonder how come you didn't managed to get your chip higher than 3.2GHz? . . . could it really be the board? . . . could it be you? . . . are you a master overclocker or are you a nOObzilla? . . .we dunno :D

Tell us the story of your overclock, it may be you can break through to the other side and save yourself spending more money when you may have a great chip there!

tried many different ways from just upping the multiplier to upping the fsb/ht or what ever it is called , got it to run through vantage at 3.4ghz @ 1.4v but the mobo started to overheat/unstable . even tried it with a 120mm fan blowing air down onto the chipset , but i have been told the mosfets need cooling if increasing the volts etc ( which would fit ?)

i agree, i bet u can get loads more out of that cpu, mine gets stuck at 3.7ghz and runs fairly cool
do a bit more research on overclocking,it took me a few months to understand things
