worth it??

Depends what you're doing really, although I can't see it being that much of an upgrade from what you currently have other than gaining 2GB extra ram on a DDR3 platform. If I was upgrading from a dual core (which I did) I would go for a quad core system (which I did). You could grab an MSI 870-C45, 4GB DDR3, and an Athlon II X4 CPU for probably about £150 easy. Then add your cooler of choice.

Not worth it. Athlon II X2 is roughly on par with Intel E5000 series...if you get a 2nd hand E5200/E5300 for around £20-£25, you would be easily able to overclock it to 3.6-3.8GHz (I've overclocked my dad's PC which has the same motherboard as you and overclocked the E5200 to 3.8GHz).

Add another 2GB RAM for around £20~£25.

And possible get the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro V2 for £15, that's only around £55-£65 in total for the same performance as that £175 bundle (but of course you would have to do the overclock yourself, but it's really easy on that board with the E5000 CPU.)

But really, if you really was gonna upgrade, go for a Quad-core or Triple Core at least.

Personally, I would try and pick up a second hand Q6600, these are fantastic chips! Stick in 2x2gb ram, and maybe upgrade your graphics card. Should be do-able for £220.

there isnt going to be much of a gain with that cpu tbh bud, id wait till i had more money if i was you rather than doing a minimal upgrade that will cost you more in the long run, that or just get a quad now and ram later

I would say to you, if your in not in a hurry to upgrade save another £200 and u can get sandybridge i5, mobo & 4gb ram but that's up to you tho.

EDIT:
To get there quicker sell your mobo, cpu & ram

ok, decision made. going to save up more

next question
i3, i5 (SB) or X4?
4 or 8GB ddr3?
GTX460?

or what about a SSD? they would give a decent proformance increase wont they?

Yer , i would go with the sandyridge , i am planning to upgade to that in the summer, cant wait , currently running a amd 2x2.4ghz and a foxcon mobo an 4gb ram , looking to get an insane fps upgrade in fsx (at the moment my system is bottlenecking my hd5770) !

i3=fast (faster than Phenom II X4 at light threaded apps and games uses two cores ot less
Phenom II X4=faster than i3 at heavy threaded apps and games uses more than two cores, but only around as fast as Intel's Core2Quad at the same clock speed
i5 (SB)= FASTEST in BOTH light and heavy threaded apps and games (but also cost the most).

You can also sell your current CPU/Motherboard/RAM to extend your budget. If I remember correctly the E2180 are great overclockers.

I would try save up for an i5 2500K setup :).

although if he does that then he wont be able to use is computer for a while until he orders the parts and gets them fitted

You omitted the fact that Phenom II X4 is more than powerful enough to power any game for the next few years (whereas a Q6600 for example may begin to struggle sooner due to being older - yes I know architecture is similar blah blah blah - and the much lower clock speed and being less overclockable.

can you confirm that 2x2GB of DDR2-800 will work with this chipset?
there is a lot of complaints about the memory capability on other fourms
