Am I better off routing a cable from downstairs to upstairs for my internet connection rather than use wireless? Would need between 30-50 m in cable length.

I didn't find the the wireless set-up great when using a Ps3, had issues with the connection dropping out and slow speeds. I am now building a gaming rig and don't want to have the same issues.

Am I in need of something to improve my wireless set-up (range extender or something), go for a powerline set-up or try a wired set-up?

I'm only using a Virgin supplied router. I'm looking for a set up that is stable for gaming, the homeplugs seem to fit the bill. Anyone had any experience using homeplugs and gaming?

A wired set up would be cheaper but it would involve more than plugging in an adapter.

I game on a pc connected via homeplug, don't see any degradation in the ping which is more affected by the isp and router connection tbh. Home plug will give you a more stable connection imho but read the other post for more info
