Randomly a friend offered me his Toyota Celica (70k miles 51plate 140) the other day in a trade for my Vaux Corsa (65k 54plate) to use as a part ex on something else he's buying. Cars well looked after and I think they're awesome to drive as my dad owns one almost identical in every part. So question is really, is my car worth more as a PX over his? I'd like to swap, insurance and tax prices I'm ok with I'm just worried about MPG. My little 1l Corsa does 35/36ish mpg which I know is pretty crap but my commute includes big hills and traffic lights, would the Celica be a lot more expensive to do this in? ballpark figures are around 40 quid fuel gets me 280ish miles atm very roughly. I'd like to have a car faster than a lawnmower for a bit but I think this'll just be a stopgap car anyway since we were planning on getting something around November, would you?

Straight swap? No-brainer IMHO. The Corsa C is a horrible car.

Both cars are probably worth about the same.

Corsa would likely be far easier for the dealer to shift I would imagine and yeah Id on't think you'll get the same economy in the celica.

I've always wanted one and to swap if for a corsa I'd be more than happy with that even more so if its juts had a full test n tax added on of course as long as its not silver haha

I get 350 miles out of a tank in my Celica, so around 35mpg and that's mostly short journeys and traffic commutes. Beware of oil leaks in the pre 2002 models mine has it but its nothing to worry over, just keep an eye on oil levels, its a slow leak from the exhaust so only needs a 6 month top up in my experience.

pre face lift 140s use oil because the owners didn't change the oil enough, and it caused the oil return holes in the crank and the pistons to block up.the fix is new pistons and regular oil changes as the lack of oil flow wrecks the piston rings.

Trust me on this i have owned a 140 and 190's

pre face lift has a honey comb front
face lift 2002 onwards has a slit in the front bumper.

it is a better car all round from the corsa , all though the suspension will be a lot firmer he the corsa...

All sorted, doing the swap next weekend and he's using my car as a part ex on a....Renault Megane cabriolet (most hairdresser looking car in the entire world?)

So yeah so far I've ordered some new number plates for it since he's transfering his private reg from it and I'm looking to run a mini service on it, should I use 5-30 fully synth oil? not 100% sure.
