Worth me upgrading from a 980ti to 1080ti?

Hey folks last year i purchased the 980ti hydro copper as a upgrade from my 780, I'm playing at 3440x1440 and starting to also play at 4k on my T.V a lot lately.

I wouldn't say i'm really struggling with any game at the moment

I was looking for a beefier card before Destiny 2 comes out as i'm really looking forward to play it on the PC.

I play a lot of Rainbow six siege, GTA V,GRW and Resident Evil 7 at the moment with VR now and then.

The question is, is it worth the jump from a 980ti Hydro copper to a 1080ti hydro copper or not.

As i'm sure the 1080ti hydro will be £849+ or should i wait a until Vega/11x series of Nvidia cards.

Thanks!

I generally won't bother unless the upgrade is 2-3 tiers above what I currently have, really.
My 980Ti does amazingly well anyway, but all my Titan-toting friends say the noisiest thing in their cases is the snoring from underutilised graphics cards.

At this point, I'd wait to see what the new stuff is like, personally.

Yeah i could wait i guess just got that horrible itch to upgrade even know i aren't having troubles to be honest, i just want to be on the safe side when Destiny 2 hits PC. Here's for hoping good optimisation!

Going by what you've written, I wouldn't bother just yet. :)

I should imagine that the bump in performance will be pretty good, though (~50-60%).

I've got SLI 980ti's and I'm sick of the lack of SLI support. 1080ti looks logical to me given how well it handles 1440p and the (almost) doubled vram looks great.

well that depands on the resolution and refresh rate of your monitor, if it's like 144hz 1440p yea you would benefit from 1080Ti, but a 1440p@60hz or 4k@30hz TV, i dont think you would need the upgrade.
check the games you are playing, if you run average 30fps upgrade would give you 45fps etc(50%).
or maybe if you need a specific feature, like ansel..., aside from performance pascal wans't great features wise.

I will be doing loads of games at 3440x1440, so you will be able to see what is what. Should have them completed by Saturday if all goes well.

Even at 1080p a Pascal Titan is not underutilised in modern games, you just turn the settings up to use the extra GPU muscle.

I dunno, Most of my friends still game at 1080p @60hz, if i limit my Titan xp to 60 fps and 1080p i get around 40-50% utilisation in the vast majority of modern games and sometimes much less (lets leave out the crappy and poorly optimised console ports and cranking up dsr just for the sakes of it). At 1440p 144hz i limit my frames to 120fps and get around 77-82% utilisation with everything maxed.

I sold My Titan Maxwell last September to buy the Titan XP, and i've loved it, but have i noticed a difference in visual fidelity ? no , has it changed how my games play ? no, are my benchmarking scores greatly improved ? yes. I bought it because i could, was it the smart mans upgrade ? absolutely not.

There are plenty of games a Pascal Titan can not max out on a 1080p monitor @144htz

Here is one for example.

If I was running a 1080p 144htz monitor I would feel a little disappointed.

I have just gone from my 980ti to a 1080ti and there is a big increase for the games I play. Some of them have almost double in terms fps, yes it's a lot of money but you can also sell your current card which will reduce the outlay a bit.

As said already the 980ti still performs great but as I am on a 1440p 144hz monitor this is why I went with the upgrade

Yeah i play at 3440x1440 100hz and 4k 60 on my Telly so i think it could be a solid upgrade.

I have a X34 Gsync 3440 x 1440 display have gone from a 980Ti @ 1500Mhz on water to a 1080Ti @ 2050Mhz on water and so far it has allowed me to up the settings on games like GTA V, The Division, Dying Light. It has also allowed me to play the latest Mass Effect @ 80-100fps which is a very demanding game at max settings and one which my old 980Ti wouldn't of coped with. The same applies to Ghost Recon which my 980Ti struggled with unless I turned a fair few things down.

Was it worth the upgrade, well yes and no. For older games not so much but for newer games like ME:A and Ghost Recon which are more demanding its a yes.

I've been same road as you. 780Ti, then to 980Ti and now I've bitten the bullet and gone for 1080Ti. I'm at 3440x1440 and while I don't struggle I'd like to max out the 100Hz of my X34. Plus at the moment I can afford it and I'll try and get at least £250 back for my old card. If I was hard up though I probably would probably hold tight, it's a lot of dosh. Mines just arrived today so looking forward to plumbing in tonight and seeing what difference the new card makes for me! (i7 5820K)

You will see a notable upgrade... but with the Ti cards now out, this usually signals next gen shortly to follow, so you might as well wait and see how good they are - Even if they're not much better than a 1080Ti, the Ti cards will drop in price and you'll be even happier!
