My new build will probably have this Motherboard & Chip combination with the OEM cooler...

Asus M4A785TD-V Evo AMD 785G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard [90-MIBAC0-G0EAY0KZ]

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail [HDZ965FBGMBOX]

Is it worth overclocking? How much more could I get out of it?

Cheers,

Andy.

What response do you expect from overclockers uk?

Yes you should overclock it. No you wont get as much from the stock cooler as from the aftermarket ones. You will only notice an improvement if the processor is currently limiting, if it isn't then I'd argue you should have bought a cheaper processor.

OK, so overclocking is definitely the way forward...

Anyone got any ideas about how far this chip can be pushed, and the best cooler for it? It's going in an Antec 300 case.

Any advice on how to start overclocking this chip and board combination in particular?

Cheers,

Andy.

I think it all depends on the stepping of these chips as to how far you can push them mate, the C3 stepping ones are the best for clocking iirc.

You might manage to get 4GHz out of it, you might not, just give it a bash and see how you get on.

Unlocked multi as well? Might be as simple as a touch more vcore and raising the multi if you are lucky.
