Worth reinstalling HL2?

Hi, just got my pc back after being parted for the last 18 months from it lol, reformatted etc for a fresh start, is it worth reinstalling HL2 or does nobody play anymore, i'd rather not install it to find it's deserted tbh. Also, i had the orange box which i originally installed, will that still be linked to my steam account and be available to download or would i need the disk as it seems people still play TF2?

Finally, what games have i missed in the last year or so similar to BF / CoD / MoH?

HL2 the campaign is still played there is even an epic mod which makes it look amazing.

TF2 is as popular as ever but more! But it might not be the same as how you remebered it, one word: 'hats'.

I would recommend BF:BC2 because it probably has the best sound any game has ever had and the multiplayer has a very healthy player base.
CoD Black Ops is popular but it depends if you like it's style of game play :)
MoH was a flunk though the campaign is good.

Games I would recommend:

Portal 2
The Witcher 2
StarCraft II
Mass Effect 1 & 2
Terraria
Minecraft

You should definitely get Battlefield 3 when it comes out ;)

I had BF BC2 and CoD BO on xbox, i'll wait for the new CoD in November, however, whether to buy on xbox or Pc is another problem haha
 
Currently 950 people playing HL2: Deathmatch and a peak of over just 1000 today.

Seems like it still has a fair amount of people playing it :)

That should be enough to make you buy the PC version :p
 
I've just reinstalled steam from my HL2 disk, updated it etc, restarted pc and tried connecting using my details and it won't connect :( This is on a wireless connection using a TP link USB Wireless N adapter. Any suggestions?

Edit, just tried using wired connection too, same error. I'm on Virgin media 50mb with the superhub btw if that helps?

Tis a big release of late, if you like strategy (or fancy a break from FPS) or have been a fan of Total War in the past then give it a go :)

Yes i can log in to steampowered fine,the error was something along the lines of unable to connect to steam network, this could be your internet connection or steam is unavailable, please see online for more details. Had a look online and couldn't really see anything, but then i was in a rush as i had to leave for work. This problem is both wired and wireless.
 
Sure I read something similar the other day that they couldn't get it working when downloading the client from the website but worked when installed from an old hl2 cd. Try deleting clientregistry.blob file, if that doesn't help reinstalling the client and then if no joy again installing the client from another source (hl2/orange box discs if you have them?).

Went and had a look on Steam support as well, have you looked at the following to see if what they suggest rectify it?

Yes i saw that fix with the .blob files, i'll try that tonight when i finish work.
