I'm wondering if its worth replacing a 2900XT in a mostly NON-gaming system
the pc runs a i5 (skt1156) CPU with a corsair HX520 PSU. The card was left over from 3 PC builds ago, but replacing it just hadnt occured to me due to the potential cost of putting in a card that will at least match it in performance, which nowadays should be very easy, but draw a lot less power.

my budget is as little as possible for the best bang to buck or closest to 2900XT performance.

I'd recommend looking in the Members Market, but I believe you'll need 250 post here and need to have been a member of this forum for 3 months.

Have a look for a HD4850 second hand, should be able to find them for around £40 and it'd be quite a step up from a 2900XT (plus use way less power, be quieter, etc).

I would recommend the 8800gt tbh. great card, there if you want to game at some point, don't use much power and will last a while longer!

Agreed or even a 512MB 8800GTS or 9800GTX+ if you can find one for a similar price as there's not much difference in them performance wise, the 9800GTX+ would use a little less power as it's 55nm instead of 65nm iirc.
