I have a lvl 80 mage , Druid , Priest and stopped playing wow 2 years ago as I got bored with grinding raids from 17:30 -22:00 most nights to get the best gear,

What I want to know is do you still have to do Raids non stop to get decent gear or can you get it other ways ?

Also has much changed in the past 2 years ? what can I expect from the game now ?

I hate how blizzard suck you of every penny, if it was any other company the latest expansion would have everything. In wow you need it all.

I stopped just over a year ago, and no way would i go back. The mrs still plays, and the only way to gt the best gear is through raids, although, there are flexi raids (raids that you can do cross realm with 15-25 people, raid size determines loot) and raid finder (25 man very dumbed down raids, lower item level raid gear, faceroll stuff full of window lickers)

If you are a pvp'er, no need for the raids.

You'd need to purchase 2 expansions, cataclysm and mists of pandara, and the final raid has already been cleared. I suppose on the plus side you could concentrate on levelling a few chars to 90, make a bit of gold all in anticipaton of the next expansion where you'd be starting from the same place as everyone else...

Game has changed a lot in the last couple years. Definitely more focused on more casual play, with lots of daily hubs, dungeons & scenarios and pet battles for those not wanting to raid.

Yes - you will still need to grind raids for best in slot gear. However, you can get tokens (from just about everything you do) that give you bonus rolls for loot.

What to expect from the game? It's WoW - you know how it works!

It's not a bad idea in all honesty - get everything for a price. But Blizzard do make the previous content available very cheaply with their Warchest, which bundles the previous expansions at a lower price.

Currently, you can get Vanilla/TBC/WOTLK for 10 quid and Cataclysm for another fiver on the Battlenet store, which is a pretty decent deal. I can't name any other MMO that bundles up previous content like that (perhaps FFXI?).

You never needed to do raids to get pvp gear.

Can get conquest points to buy the best pvp gear.

Conquest points can be obtained by doing arenas, battlegrounds and rated battlegrounds. No raiding required :D

I think so yes wow never loses the appeal even after you quit and come back five times ;)

There is nothing like it, and nothing that polished and exact genre but i keep missing it and falling behind.Cata i came into having to rush through wrath and that killed me so i quit. And my comp sucked for Pandaria and now i want back but i have missed Cata and Pandaria.Pandaria looks great though and i hit 90 doing PVP.

I think it still may to possible to take off some items and do my quests and get prepared for the next expansion.Lets face it there is a lot of work to do with transmorg set, professions and all the little items one might need. For instance i want to craft portable mailbox and a portable vendor like jeeves for my Island fishing. And with the Andriod wow app i can use the AH and take delivery anywhere and have it instantly.

yeah I must admit I have stuck through MoP and did abit of PvE got bored and went over to PvP and love it.

i do 2v2 with my brother and love it I am looking forward to the next expansion as I dont have a 'main' every new expansion I try a different character.

I dont have a 'main' main lol I think thats why I dont get bored my lowest levl is 87 atm just getting them to cap so i have a choice on release

There are better MMOs, WoW has the best end game content but the combat is still as rubbish as ever. There also may be a ton of content spread around the world but it's all generic and forgettable. TERA, GW2 or TESO would be better, cheaper choices. They all have much, much better communities too, every other person isn't an elitist loser with a god complex like in WoW.

I've considered going back myself but the game is a continual grind with no end in sight and ultimately the grind is not good fun :(

I do miss certain things though

I tried getting back in after a two year break last month, the new zones didn't feel that great to me and the end game was just the same as before. Lost interest again.

Whilst private servers do give something not in the current game I think its frowned up to mentioned them here. Personally I dont beleive in private servers of the current iteration of the game, so vanilla, BC and LK are 'ok' (I have played on both vanilla and BC versions).

Would I have done that if Blizzard offered legacy servers? No.

Back on topic, No I dont think its worth coming back to, the core gameplay isnt that great imo and the lore isn't a patch on previous - saying that if you really do want to experiance Mists, then limit yourself to a month or 2 as you'll get to see shoddy lore & you'll see the boss fights through LFR.

If its BiS gear you're after from your WoW experiance then I cant help you as that isnt my playstyle :)
