My sig will tell you what I have, temps are good idle, and machine is stable. I've noticed a lot of G0 revision chips on a popular auction site though, and was wondering whether it would be worth me selling the B3, and buying a G0 with the money.

Prime maxes out at 63 ish with the overclock, to get stability at 3.3 I have to up volts considerably, and temps are just far too hot (max for chip is 62 I think)

What can people get outof their G0's, would it be worth it, I figure I'll only need to spend an extra £20 at max.

Er, yes replace with the G0, I did the same thing last year and from a max OC of 3.2GHz I reached 3.9 stable, 4.25 for cpuz validation

I'd stick. You may get a G0 that isn't as good as your B3, which is pretty damn good for a B3. Save for a bigger upgrade, not socket 775

Was wondering the same, mine tops at 58 @ 3.0Ghz.

What fsb, multiplier, vcore you use for 3.2 Michaeljcox24 ?

EDIT: im using 333 x 9, auto voltage (1.2875v)

Generally Q6600 G0s tend to get around 3.6Ghz Maximum, apart from the odd lucky few that get a little higher, but there's no guarantee. 3.2Ghz for a 2.4Ghz binned chip is quite good I think anyway. Stick with it. Not worth the hassle.

I sold my B3 and got the G0 for £3 extra, it not just about the extra mhz to play with, its a different chip with new potential, something new to push, yeah you might be unlucky, but you might be lucky.

I would say it would only be worth it so long as you already have a great cooling and you get a decent G0 SCLAR. £20 isnt that much lets face it. Bear in mind though 3.6 isnt guaranteed even if you do go for the G0.

TBH, I just upgraded from the E6400 OCd to 3.3ghz to an i7 930 @ 3.8Ghz and in real world terms (ie most games) I don't think its affected my fps by a significant amount.

Sorry to hear that, swap you my E6400 for it? lol

Im not saying it didnt affect it, but it isnt really THAT noticable in most of the things I play. I upgraded cos I wanted quad and some headroom for future games. As more games come out with multicore etc I'm sure the advantages will be more realised.

NeoVo,

I used fsb of 356, multiplier 9, Vcore is 1.325V. It's only a couple of notches from the 1.3125V VID of the chip itself.

Ok, I think I'll stick with the chip. Thanks for the advice lads.

You could have course invest in a kick ass cooler. This would be of use for your existing chip to hopefully improve your clock and for when you eventually upgrade. The Thermalright Silver Arrow is the new pick of the crop just ahead of the DH-14.

I went from a B3 Q6600 @ 3.2ghz to a G0 that did 3.5ghz. Wasn't worth it tbh. Chips that will do 3.6+ are quite rare.

If it doesn't cost you anything and you don't mind the hassle then go for it. Surely G0 can't do any worse than 3.2Ghz? Worst case you get to run 3.2 at a lower temp. But if you have a bit of cash to spare go for the Q9550, a lot more potential in terms of oc.

I had a B3 Q6600 that did 3.33Ghz but temp went to 70+ during prime test. Cooler was a Tuniq Tower.

we cant all be this lucky!
my G0 (1.325V VID) really isnt that happy above 3.4, and is faster at 3.2 because its easier to get my RAM faster, so i leave it at 3.2 unless im bored and trying fruitlessly to hit 3.6 again :D

PS: redshadow, can I have that CPU please? straight swap for mine? :p

Mate, I would have said yes, I had benched it all I wanted and after that ran it at 3.5Ghz for most of it 5 months with me, I'm more of a bench fiend so like using loads of chips, max it out, move on.

This year is a little different, I have a bunch of chips but no main chip this year, wife has decided to pass her test so need to buy and run another car on my hard earned.

Right now Im testing a E2140 on air, will move to water tomorrow and test for a few days like that......how about a swap for that??? ;)

lol, I'll stick with my quad I think.
a mate offered me a trade for his ever so slightly lower VID G0, but tbh I can't be bothered to swap it out, just gonna wait for SB to hit the shelves then i'll either be getting SB or x58 i7, depending on a few factors (mainly OC ability of SB :D). have spent years looking for a golden 6600 on that well known auction site, to no avail, found a 1.2375 VID last year but it went for slightly over what i could afford/ borrow.

come to think of it Red, how much voltage did u need for that 3.9 stable clock?
I'm guessing it would be way above my comfort zone of about 1.5v....one day I will start nuking chips for fun, but I need to sort my income out first, until then I need to make my bits last!

back on topic: @ OP: MOST G0s will hit 3.6, but certainly not ALL, but tbh if it was me an it would only cost ~£20 and not leave me without a computer for too long, I'd do it, just because I always considered 50% as my target.
However if u can find a guaranteed VID on [well know auction site] or the MM (which I can't see yet :() then thats a different story: BUY BUY BUY ;)
