Worth swapping Q6600 B3 for G0

come to think of it Red, how much voltage did u need for that 3.9 stable clock?
I'm guessing it would be way above my comfort zone of about 1.5v....one day I will start nuking chips for fun, but I need to sort my income out first, until then I need to make my bits last!

Only 1.48v for 3.9Ghz had to bump up to 1.6 for 4.25, but my water cooling had it more than under control for heat.

Triple RAD pulling winter air in from outside with push pull loons and a OCZ hydro with the washer trick. I cant quite remember the temps but it was cold.

Hey,

From what I've gathered it probably isn't worth the money for the additional tiny performance increase. Why not put the money aside and save for a complete upgrade instead?

NeoVo,

I used fsb of 356, multiplier 9, Vcore is 1.325V. It's only a couple of notches from the 1.3125V VID of the chip itself.

Ok, I think I'll stick with the chip. Thanks for the advice lads.

Your B3 has a better vid than my 1.325 G0. Run mine at 3.4ghz as while 3.5 is stable, the fan noise and power use are too much for a 3% gain. You should have no problems getting more speed out of that B3 if you up the volts a couple more notches.

JTrickle,

Yes, I have tried up the voltage by a couple of notches to 1.3375. Trouble is, at that voltage, Prime hits 70 odd degrees on blend after a few hours. As far as I am aware, the max for the chip is 62. When the numbers on coretemp started turning yellow, I cancelled the run.

This is why I asked the question the in the first place, I know G0's run cooler, but it would seem that a lot of people are saying if I can't guarantee a low vid chip that overclocks well, I might as well keep the B3.

No not really worth it. Average stable clock of a G0 on good air cooling is around 3.4Ghz. So you're looking at a ~200Mhz (6%) increase, which you're not really going to see.
I've seen only very few Q6600 stable at ~4.0Hz but they do exist.
