heya, i upgraded not too long ago to this spec

GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3P AMD 970 (Socket AM3+)

Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

SanDisk Z400S SSD SATA III 2.5" 256GB Solid State Hard Drive

EVGA 600W ATX Power Supply

XFX Radeon R9 390 Double Dissipation 8GB GDDR5

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 4.00Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor

is it worth jumping to an Intel CPU, for example this: Z170XP-SLI - Intel Core i5 6600K Bundle. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...-6600k-bundle-20-pounds-saving-bu-021-gi.html

i play lots of games, its my main machine, i dont feel im getting maximum performance. also besides my suggestions, anyone got any ideas to boost fps?

thanks

Hi,

I left AMD to goto Intel...
I had an 8120FX Black Edition, but when playing games i was getting very poor fps and overall performance in games was actually very poor....

After taking some advice from here, i have ditched the AMD for an i7 4790k ,
and i will never, ever go back to AMD as the Intel cpu is lightning quick and fantastic for gaming.

Your fps will go up so much , just by changing cpu / mobo.
I have just upgraded to a Palit Super 1070GTX- amazing gpu! Plays all my games on ultra @ 1080p and is also great @ 1440p.

You really wont regret taking the jump... trust me.

Totally agree

I upgraded last year when my 8350 died on me I went to a 4690k and a gigabyte z97 board.
Ive not got an i7 4770k and an MSI Z97 gaming 5 board and my mate has my old board and cpu. best move I ever made. as said previously even with the i5 4690k my games were so much smoother compared to the 8350. now I have the i7 4770k I dont think I could ever go back to an FX cpu.

Im hoping Zen will pack a punch but the newer intel chips might have a better punch. the price will decide.

Just grab any intel chip, smack a cooler on it, and some of this magical TIM: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/coollaboratory-liquid-pro-liquid-metal-thermal-paste-th-005-cl.html
OC's are crazy mad... Just make sure not to write your name on the pins!

In all seriousness, not relating back 7 years, I went from an 8320 to a 5820k and the difference was monumental, complete different ball game, FPS are much more stable in games, fluctuation is a lot lower than it was on the 8320 which makes the world a better place!

I would at least hang on until Kabylake and the Z200 series chipset are released. Supposedly it will be here by the end of the year, maybe January at the latest.

I agree with the waiting a bit to see the next gens - unless you currently find that performance isn't "good enough". FPS counters and what you think you should get aside, if the games feel stuttery and unpleasant, just take the jump asap and solve the problem.

For all we know, neither Zen nor Kaby will actually be significantly better than Skylake, and you'll have waited 4 months for nothing :)

Will the next gen of AMD be AM3+ or FM2+?

AMD is a great cheaper product and sometimes you can make just do with them fine but avoid any of the models with APU as if your running a dedicated card there is no need the gains are not amazing.

I thought it was to be neither AM3+ or FM2+, but something entirely new... might be wrong, been a while since I read up on it.

Its worth upgrading from any AMD system to an Intel system unfortunately. :(

Looking forward to the new AMD chips, they are long long overdue! :p

Im looking at upgrading my son at some point from the FX8350 so im hoping AMD will pull off a good one this time that will be worth considering. if not Ill be building an another Intel machine.

The new socket will be AM4 if I remember right and if by some miracle it can compete with Intel I expect the price to be similar as well. I fear the days of AMD's cpu's being the cheaper option are over unless it's another flop.
