As the title of the post says, i'm looking to get myself a new monitor, I'll be doing mainly gaming as well as some software engineering / web design on the monitor so I\m just wondering wither or not its totally worth switching from a TN pannel to a more expensive IPS pannel?

My budgets only around £170-200 and I'd rather keep to the lower end of the budget. I know the dell u2311h is about £200ish but is it worth paying all that extra just to get the IPS pannel especially if its not going to be used for any image / video editing?

Or even buying a cheaper 3d ready pannel and getting 3d active glasses once I can afford them

You can pick up a 120Hz monitor for £175 which would be great for gaming, which is the LG W2363D. Look around for it and you'll find it.

It's not a decision anyone can really make for you. You have to weigh up the advantages of each and decide what's more important for your usage. Personally after trying both, I can't live with the vertical viewing angles of the larger TN panels, even for gaming I find the top to bottom difference distracting. Likewise, I know many people have no issues at all with it, the reason the u2311h has done so well is because it's a bit of an all rounder and not that much more expensive than a decent TN.

yea its a tough decision to make

not sure wither or not to even just go for a cheaper budget 24" TN panel and just get 2 for the price of one of the dell lol
