worth the jump opty 145 - 6600

Big jump, I went from an Opty 175 to an E6600 @ 3.4ghz and the difference is like night and day in games... I love it. :)

lol, cheerz, now i just got to pick the rest, out of interest could u post your spec? proberly going with the geil 6400 and the DS3. but not sure yet

E6600
DS3
2GB Gskill 6400 HZ
OCZ GameXtream 700w
NEC MultiSync 20WGX2

Upgrading the mobo soon though to an RD600 or an NV 680i. :)

DS3 is good but a bit basic for my needs, and the new mobos are better specced and featured. Oh yeah, and my Thermalright SI-128 doesjn't fit the DS3. :)

:( doh u just reminded me, my waterblock proberly wont fit, grrrrrrr more money

Well then again it can cost less.....just get yourself an E6300 and save £100. ;)

But he might just want the extra 2MB to play around with ;)

I would recommend a E6600.

Ive worked with the DS3 and its a good board, but I would pay the extra and get a top notch Asus one. Not heard anything about the new boards arriving but if you want a board with features, better performance, I would get a slighty more expensive one.

Had both E6600 + E6300....the E6600 ain't worth the extra £100 IMO. ;)

Does it really matter whether he had a 144 or a 146 considering the question he was asking? The E6600 obliterates both of them. ;)

of course. I have just sold my 939rig which had a opty 144 and i'm getting a E6300 :D

I have just got the F.E.A.R expansion pack and my machine is really starting to struggle. I am running a X1800XT with a Venice 3200+ @ 2.5Ghz and 1Gb of DDR400. I am considering a C2D E6300, Asus P5B Deluxe and 2Gb of DDR2-800... I am hoping to get to about 3Ghz on air if thats possible. Is that board nice and easy to setup and get clocking? My Asus A8N SLI Premium is a pop to get overclocking so dont want anything too complicated...

My mate Big Dave has just finished the F.E.A.R expansion pack, says it's really good. His system is an Opteron 146 @ 2.88GHz, 2GB OCZ PC4000 and a Radeon X1800XT. Have to find out what res he was playing at on his DELL 24".
