Hi,

i currently have a 64 3400+ newcastle, i'm looking to step up to dual core, will i see much of a difference between that and the x2 3800+?

also going for a x1800xt 512 mb pci-e card :)

You will see a vast improvement and dual core is like running 2 cpus...

plus the x2 3800+ overclocks very well much better than your current cpu...

all in all you will be better off with dual core....

what do u use your pc for?

Actually, if gaming is your thing, you're likely to see a small performance DECREASE if you're switching over from a 3400+...find and run the comparisons. You will see a vast improvement in Apps, particularly (and somewhat obviously) muti-threaded apps, digital media/photo editing etc

If however you get a decent overclock out of your 3800+ X2 (which in fairness, most people seem to) then yes you will see an improvement in ALL areas but it depends on whether you're prepared to do this.

It'll be a very minor decrease he sees though, very very minor. even at stock, I didn't notice a lot of performance drop from my opteron which was @ 2.7GHz, although this might be because i have a lot of stuff running in the background behind games :p
