as in the title really, I've just bought a 2nd 7800 gtx and im worried my 3800+ is going to hold me back.

the 4400 runs at 2.2 but with 1 meg cache, and my 3800+ runs 2.4 (clocked to about 2.6) with 512k cache.

What I want to know is, is it really worth upgrading to x2 technology or should i go for a fx-57 ?

Games eat graphics cards nowadays (FEAR, COD2) so more proccy power is unlikely to make much of a difference, especially seeing as you have a decent CPU anyway! Most games make little or no use of dual core, so I'd wait until the next set of chips come out on AM2 in the next year to see how dual core reacts to the support it's given from the games industry.

Just as Zefan says. Once you start upping the resolution the GPU is by far the biggest factor. You can stay with your CPU for a while to come.

To be honest if you have the money for an FX-57 then an X2-4800 plus some High End air cooling should see you hit around 2.6 - 2.7Ghz on an X2-4800 now thats 2 cpus not one, later this year Unreal 2007 is released and will greatly benefit from the presence of dual core..... trust me I havnt looked back and from the amount of people around here that are actually buying them or already have them dual core is proveing to be quite popular...... for gamers and non gamers alike :)

thanks for the replies guys, i am in the process of doing a watercooling setup but dont really want to overclock too much.
i'll wait until ut2007 comes out to see how it fairs !
