Worth the upgrade?

Hi all,

I've recently upgraded my old Athlon 2800 for something a little more up-to-date (in sig - hooray! :D ) and now I'm starting to think my monitor could use some updating too.

I'm presently using the Xerox XA7-192i which I bought about 12 months ago to replace my Iiyama VisionMaster Pro 454. In truth, I've never been 100% happy with the colour reproduction of my TFT compared to my old CRT but I guess it had a lot to live up to! I find the Xerox just about passable, but that's where it stops. It's never really set my world alight as far as visual quality goes. I just find the colours look waxy and not very realistic, although the screen is fine for motion blur etc.

Now I have a little more to spend on something really good, I'm wondering if TFT technology has moved on in terms of visual quality, and if I would notice any difference in picture/colour quality by upgrading to a newer TFT. Hopefully someone has gone a similar route and has some helpful advice for me! :D

I'm looking at a couple of screens in the 20"+ TFT range and would like a Widescreen monitor this time around;

Belinea 2225S1

Dell 2007FP

NEC LCD20WGX2

Samsung SM-215TW

My budget is around the 300 pound mark, but as you can see from the above I'm willing to spend a little more if it's a quality product. I guess I just think OcUK haven't had enough of my money yet ;)

Thanks for any help and replies!

Everything I've read points to the NEC being the best there. Good build quality, with nice asthetics. And the colour reproduction is v.good apparently. I was going to buy a 22" screen, but I'm now tempted to go with the smaller size for better quality. :)

tftcentral has a review of the NEC model. :)

Yeah, the NEC is the best of those, a very good gaming screen. The Dell would be just a touch behind it in most areas but it's still a very nice gaming screen and it can be had quite a bit cheaper. Those both have a very quick IPS panel in them, although they're not so great for movies. The Sammy 215T is the one that's supposed to have bad input lag, but if it's not for fast FPS gaming then it's supposed to be an excellent all round screen. The Belinea is great value but it's TN+Film so it will have limited viewing angles, and it only has a single input.
