Hey guys I know I should post this in the Hardware section, but I thought it might be more suited in here as I mainly play games!

My current system is:
C2D E6600 overclocked @ 3.2ghz
4 gb RAM
ATI 4870 1gb
Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

Upgrade:
AMD Phenom X6 1090T
4 gb RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 1gb
Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

Obviously there are a few other upgrades like the motherboard, case etc, but is it worth it for £500?

If it was me I would opt for a x4 cpu and something like the 6950 graphics card.

That would be a phenomenal upgrade.

Personally I'd say no, for half a grand I'd be wanting more of an improvement than that... same amount of RAM, same OS, modest GPU increase - I just can't see you getting full value out of it.

For gaming a hexcore will be largely wasted, to be honest you'd be much better off saving up a bit of extra cash and going for a proper upgrade i.e:

Sandybridge (£170)
8GB DDR3 (£80)
GTX 480 or better (£200)

So basically £450 plus cost of the mobo

I'm on the nearly the same setup as you Neo and honestly I don't think I'll be upgrading until the next generation of graphics cards. Fair enough there'll be maybe one or two games on the market by the end of the year that I won't be able to play on full but right now everything runs smoothly enough to keep me happy.

In saying that I haven't really been playing too many games recently either so I'm probably not the best person to comment in here.

If you really feel the need to upgrade, only thing I would change on that setup is the graphics card (assuming you play at 1920x1080) to something like a 6950 and then maybe hold back til the end of the year...

I play at 1680x1050.

Think that processor is a dual core?

I am noticing more and more games now that use over 2 cores (usually poorly optimised but the extra cores help) I think 6 cores maybe be overkill and for the same money I'd stick with 4 with higher clocks for now.

I'm gaming on the same res as you on a i5 with a 5850, not having performance issues yet on the latest games, have been able to max everything i've got so far.
