Hello I'll keep it short seen as everyones asking the same questions.

Bought a Dell XPS 8300 last month

Spec

•Intel® Core™ i7-2600 Processor (3.4GHz, 8MB)
•16GB Dual Channel DDR3 1333MHz [4x4gb] Memory
•1.5TB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
•DVD +/- RW Drive (read/write CD & DVD) with Roxio and DVD Burn software
•AMD Radeon™ HD 6770 1GB DDR5 graphics
• Dell 470W psu

Ive got a few quid left over to upgrade the graphics card before the release of bf3. Now heres the question. Do I bother?

I currently play bfbc2 fine on medium settings on 1280 x 1024 res.

Im willing to pay upto £250 for a new one. Is it worth upgrading? Im know depending on what car i chose I'd also need a new psu out of the £250 too, so that limits me even more. For £180 + a new psu would I notice a worthwhile difference and if so what card/psu combo would you recommend in that price range?

Cheers in advance for replies

Hmm the radeon 7000 series will be out soon I suggest you wait for that for best bang for buck.

I'd say you'd be able to play at medium and low settings, however someone who has the beta will be able to guide you better with your current card.

as nicky said wait for the 7000 series. you'd notice a big difference in gaming performance between a current gen £180 card and your 6770, but the difference between a 7000 series £180 card and the 6770 will likely be much bigger. if you really can't wait for a month or two, then go with something like a 560Ti or a 6950 1GB.

for the PSU maybe a corsair TX650 or similar. modular is always nice. 750W might be better if you'll ever consider multi-GPU

Comes to £266.08 including shipping. The high end 7000 series isn't expected until H1 2012 anyway. The 6950 will play BF3 fine with no problems judging from the beta, although obviously not with everything set on max :p.

EDIT: You can try sell the 6770 off, should be able to get some money back from it.

Bearing in mind the AMD 7000 series has been delayed to Q1 of next year now id just go for the upgrade otherwise youll be waiting forever.

thing is if you are only playing at 1280 x 1024 any graphics card upgrade over a 6770 is going to be a waste/pointless. You should be able to max out any game with a 6770 at 1280 x 1024, especially with a i7-2600

You would be better off upgrading your monitor first and then consider a PSU/GPU upgrade later when 7000 arrives.
