Worth the Upgrade?

Not worth the upgrade.

You won't gain much at all by upgrading to a 50D. Far better to spend any money you have on an itch on better glass.

If you're happy with physically handling the small body of the 500D then I can only think that the higher fps of the 50D would be a real world advantage.
What type of photography is your preference and also what lenses do you have?

Hmm well looking at that comparison, there is not much in it at all really, a lot less than I would have thought anyway!

Yea maybe saving is the best thing to do.

Lens wise, Sigma 10-20mm, Tamron 17-50 2.8, Canon 55-250is and hopefully a Sigma 30mm 1.4 in the next week or so once I source one.

I mostly do landscapes/night photography, so would really prefer a bit better iso performance higher up, do some family stuff as well (hence me getting rid of my nifty and going for the Sigma 30mm)

I can't say what the leap from 500 to 50 would be, but I went from 300D to the 30D, then 60D. Personally I'd say go for it as I find the xxD range much nicer to use. The menu system alone was a great improvement, and a lot of simple functions that were hidden away in the fiddly menu system are actually on the camera body, making things so much easier.

Still, if you don't need the upgrade then I'd save for lenses. There's nothing worse that getting the upgrade wrong and realising you need better lenses, as you know you've got months of saving to go before you'll be happy again :D

But yeah, Lens > body > accessories.

Or you could be a tard like me and go Lens/body bag > bag > bag > tripod > bag > bag > lens > lens > body > lens > bag > lens > lens > body > lens > lens with lots of accessories scattered throughout :D
