Hey Guys, I currently run a Pentium G2120 3.1GHz which i have to say for around 50 pound is an absolute bargain, It's run mostly everything i've wanted it to run. I can get an i5 3470 off a buddy for a reasonable price and i was just wondering if it was worth upgrading?

I mainly do gaming.

System Spec,

4GB DDR3 1600MHz
Asrock P67 Fatal1ty Professional
Asus Direct cuii Radeon 6950 1GB
64GB Crucial V4 SSD (Great for the money after firmware update)

I know in general tasks it'll be quite abit faster but i was wondering if many games atm would show much of an increase as people keep saying most games only take use of the 4 cores with an exception to a few. I know that's gonna change with the release of next gen consoles.

Best thing you could do, before upgrading, is to get some software that show your cpu/gpu usage and stress test them in some game.
If your cpu usage is higher than gpu usage, then upgrading cpu is a good idea.
However I wouldn't go for 3470. You can get a 3570k or even consider going for Haswell.
Or if its just gaming and you're on a budget, go for amd.
But first do what I told you, check whats your cpu/gpu usage.
If neither use their full potential in games you play, there is no point in upgrading right now.

Thanks for the reply.

It's my friend that has the 3470 and he's willing to give it to me reasonably cheap, I can't really afford the K. I didn't want to change motherboard etc and my current one doesn't support Haswell as it's a different socket type.

I was playing Crysis 2 on my pc which run quite well at 1080P Ultra, My Average GPU Usage was 74% and my average CPU usage was 95% does that count as a bottleneck?
