Hi all i haven't updated my GPU in a while i'm currently using a ATI 5870 XXX edition now would it be worth upgrading to a Asus Radeon R9 290 "Voltage Unlocked" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card , would i see a massive increase in performance , i think i payed £350 when i got my 5870 and i can get the R9 290 for £319.99 at the moment :)

I'm also using a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2GHz .

was thinking of upgrading to this >> AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz.

i'm not too sure how the Piledriver CPUs perform just wanted to ask if this would be a good upgrade too.

Tab.

Massive upgrade from a 5870. Just have to bear in mind that with the stock cooler it runs quite hot / fan noise. Better going for custom cooling on an R9 290

Hi Varkanoid when you say custom cooling do you mean changing the fan etc? or picking a card like this >> Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 OC WindForce 4096MB

yes he means a card like that, the reference ones suck big time!
i would go for this as i have one and love it, plus its recommended by gibbo!
what psu do you have?

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £349.99
Total : £359.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

the 8350 will be fine but get a custom cooler on it, the stock one is rubish...or get the 8320 and custom cooler and clock it up to the 8350 :)

Would the CPU cooler i have be ok for the 8350 , i would have got the AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590 Black Edition 4.70GHz (5.00GHz Turbo) but i dont think my motherboard supports it , i think my motherboard will work with upto 140w cpu's and i think the 9590 runs at 220w.. maybe someone can correct me.. or maybe a bios update would do it , i belive my motherboard is Ver1 not Ver2
