Worth the upgrade?

Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading to 16GB of memory. I currently have Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB). Is it worth me buying another set of the ram i have (~£40) or just buying some new faster 16GB kit?

Just buy 2x4 imo. By the time you need more than 16 GB you'll be on a new platform no doubt (based on your CPU).

dont forget 4 stick can lower your overclock.
i would stay at 8gb until you get reduced performance.

Not much need for 16GB of ram. Does depend on what you use your pc for.

got my first low memory warning today, COD:BO3 closed and windows told me i was low on memory. turns out i only had 1 x 4gb in my system as i removed the others to fit a new cooler over a week ago.

maybe get some faster memory instead of higher capacity if you want it for gaming

no need 1600Mhz is all you need with ddr3.
1333 to 1600 shows a good gain is performance but going over 1600 shows no real world gain, just a gain in bench.

on ddr4 2666 is also shown to be the same

on sandybridge faster memory gives you a big boost in fps, but since his sig has been removed i dont know the OPs rig setup

No it doesn't. In the occasional game the difference between 1333mhz and 2133mhz can be a few extra FPS, by a few i mean like 1 to 3. In most games though the difference is only usually like 0.1 FPS... so small that it's within the margin of error.

It makes so little difference that it might as well make no difference at all.
