Worth the upgrade?

Hi all,

I'm looking to build a new PC soon and was wondering if you could point me in the right direction regarding whether it's worth upgrading my graphics card or not.

I currently have a GTX 780 as part of a i7 2700k setup.

Would I see much of a gain if I upgraded to a 1060 as part of a new PC with a i7 6700k 4.0ghz skylake? Or should I stick with the 780 as there's not much in it? Sorry if it's a slightly dumb question, I'm out of touch with all the component advances these days. :o

Thanks :)

If you plan a major upgrade I would consider balance the money.

It would be better to get an GTX1070 and an i5 6600K, than a GTX1060 and a 6700K.

Hey mate,

Thanks for the reply! Care to elaborate a little further? :)

I think what he's saying is, you'd likely a better performance jump in games with a stronger GPU (1070) and slightly lesser CPU (i5 6600K), than the options you suggested.

That said if you're a "power user" on the desktop you might still want to go with your original option, as an i7 would serve you better in that case, and the 1060 with its 6GB VRAM would be in my personal opinion a step up from your 780.

OK, thanks :)
