Hi,
Currently have my e4300 running at 2.4 on stock volts and reading about 40deg in coretemp. Its running under an ac7 but the temps seem a tad high (up to 60deg during orthos). i was hoping to get the overclock a bit higher but is this wise at these temps or should i undervolt at my current clock? any advice appreciated- do these chips usually run this hot?

Remember Orthos pushes your CPU to the max a lot of stuff wont push your CPU as hard as Orthos does so bare that in mind and considering that 60c is fine, you could go to 70c under Orthos and it all be fine.

I undervolt my E4300 to 1.1vcore, runs a 200mhz oc as well... orthos stable, load is still about 55... my chip is a hot one.

Temps seem higher than most but as said are fine.

I would allways undervolt the cpu to the point it became unstable then just rasie slightly.

If orthos gives you 60deg then will surely put you in the mid 70's.

You will probably to see a max temp of around 55deg in games which isn't bad.

If your like me, regardless of what others say you wan't it cooler then first try less volts.

On that cpu i would start off around 1.275 and see how you go.
