Hello everyone,

Since Win10 has been announced, I keep wondering if it's worth upgrading to it right now on my main, everyday use machine (I have an original copy of 8.1 installed).

Should I go for it now or just wait for the full version to come out :) ?

Share your opinions with me about gaming on windows 10 and everything else.

I would, the latest build brings all of 8.1 together with the features of 7, for gaming it is going to be good as well. I would defiantly install it.

No. Don't use unfinished software (in before 'all Windows is unfinished lol') as your main OS.

If there are occasions where you sit down and go 'hmm I have five minutes to achieve this important task' then save the pre-release stuff for a VM.

would agree with caged, install vm player and install windows 10 preview on there. that is what I have done and then you have your main system untouched

I'm enjoying playing with Windows 10 in a VM but no way would I use pre release software as the only OS on my main PC. By all means download it and use it but only in a way in which any problems it causes don't matter.

Bingo. I would never run any prerelease on a system I consider production, my main PC being as close to production as I get in a home env.

get the ISO and a VM setup :)

that's what I (and many people on this thread) are doing to test it and see how it works :)

I wouldn't go for a live install till its proper release.

whats the deal with upgrades though, if you install the beta are you likely to get a price reduction on the release or anything like that?

Ok is there a thread on how to run the vm and iso?

Cheers.

Will definitely upgrade to Win 10.

If you install the beta, chances are, you can't upgrade to the RTM version, you will need to reinstall. Historically there has been no discount for public testers.

Yes! Defy them! Install it!

PS As I understand it, you either buy W10 when it's released, or if you have W7 or 8.1 you can upgrade for free within the first year of release. There are no further charges - it isn't 'free for a year and then you must pay'.

Corporate users will be subsidising this, I suppose. Especially those paying for XP 'support' for evermore.

I updated as soon as it was released at home and at work. At work its my job to test the new OS with all the software and if its free the first year then its likely i will be pushing it out when its released and learning a bout it early on will only help.

This new build is a lot more stable, no more black graphic problem or explorer crashes, well so far. Once you change the start menu back to the previous build one its a lot better.

I noticed substantial improvements in performance in bf4 going from win 7 to 10 but not sure how pronounced that would be if you are on 8 already.

I just got back from college and read all your comments. Thanks for sharing by the way :P.

I guess i will go for the VM for now and see how everything is running and maybe install it on my old laptop as I don't really use it much.

This is good advice.

Okay so I installed it in VirtualBox but it moves really slowly and laggy.. is it due to the fact i only allowed it 4gb of ram and 25gb of hdd or that's how it performs for everyone ? is really annoying.

i guess that depends on what platform/hardware virtualbox is installed on?
I'm installing hyper-v onto my works server which has plenty of beef! :)
