Hi,

Should I upgrade my CPU from a Core Duo 6400, as I'm about to upgrade my monitor and Graphics card. CPU/Motherboard would need to be less than £250 combo

Currently using the following
Gigabyte DS3
Intel Core Duo 6400 (overclocked to 3000)
Nvidia 8800GT

I'm getting a 24" monitor along with a GTX280. I'm just not sure if I need to upgrade my CPU to support this. This will be my last purchase for a few years. I'm running Vista 64 with 4gb Ram.

I'm a keen gamer so I'm thinking 2 years ahead in regards to gaming at high rez with AA, as well as demanding games from the last year.

On a side note I've heard that my existing 8800 could be used as a physx card. I'd need a new motherboard for this so again I'm just not sure if it's worth it along with the CPU upgrade.

Thanks for the reply.

After checking my order history here is the exact ram I'm using
GeIL 4GB (4 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz

The Asus P5Q was the board I was considering.

Any idea if my current Ram will work and allow the overclock to 4ghz mark, as £250 would be my max to spend on any additional items.

Once again thanks.

Referring to my original question the upgrade of the CPU and Motherboard sounds like a good idea. I'll go check that shopping basket now
