It it worth upgrading my 108Mbps Netgear WGT624 v4 for a 300Mbps one?

At the moment im sending wireless to my two PS3's and my Bro's Dell laptop. Also a HTPC which is hardwired to it.

Internet connection is 20Mb Virgin.

Worth it or waste of money?

Depends really, my experience of getting an N router with 300 mbps is that it provides a much more consistent connection, for 3 clients. Also, if you want to stream any high quality content to that HTPC, the faster the better really.

You'd need to replace the 108Mbps adapters (or already have 802.11n ones) to get any real benefit.

Dont have any adapters.

if you are not transferring between the PS3's and the other equipment then there is no point

Are the PS3's not 54Mbps?

Bro's laptop has Intel wifi 5100 which can do 300Mbps with a wireless "N" router but only 54Mbps on a/g networks.

If i was transfering a large file over wifi to my bros laptop, what would teh rate be with a 300Mbps transfer rate?

With 54Mbps i was getting around 1.2 - 1Mb/s

** This is what im looking at: Netgear WNR2000 300Mbps Wireless N Cable Router

A 54Mb connection will have 22-26Mb throughput, encrypted, with a good signal (~2.4 MB), a 300 will be closer to 120-150Mb with a good signal but doesn't mixed mode reduce the speed to the lowest connected client?

Not to mention that wireless without adapters would be a waste of time, you do:

Bro's laptop has Intel wifi 5100 which can do 300Mbps with a wireless "N" router but only 54Mbps on a/g networks.

You should get more than 1MB/s on 802.11g. I get ~2.5-3MB/s and that's without sitting on top of the router.

No point as the PS3 is only 54G but the laptop will benefit (unless transferring to the PS3s).
