Can do a full 7800x3D AM5 upgrade for about £380. Currently using a 5800x and a RTX 3080 and planning on aiming for 1440p 120/144fps so wondering if the CPU/RAM upgrade would be worth it to squeeze out any extra performance.

Had a look around and opinions seem to be mixed, and a lot of benchmarks seem to be at 1080p where the difference is most noticable.

Thanks!

What do you mostly do with your PC?

What games do you mostly play specifically?

Are you looking to upgrade your GPU soon?

It's a weird point in time where all of those things might matter. You've still got a decent CPU for what I would consider general use/gaming, but nothing is black and white. There are games that would massively enjoy an X3D update even on AM4 for a bunch of reasons. In general? Don't bother if you're happy, it's probably the worst time to switch to AM5 for someone looking for averages across X titles.

If you play very specific titles it might make a gigantic difference.

Your 5800X and 3080 is a good machine built by everyone a few years ago. Should still be good enough but for fluid 1440p gaming than yeah a 7800X3D and 4070Ti needed.

As the previous posted said though - what games you playing

As mentioned above, a 7800X3D could make a huge difference. Your 3080 is still a good card and I'd see how that holds up with the 7800X3D before upgrading it. I'd definitely wait until the new 5000 Super range is released around Christmas time. Skip the 4000 range of Nvidia cards, no point at this time.
