Is it worth while changing my 7970 to something else to run games at the best settings at 2560x1080 resolution ?

Was thinking of changing to a r9 290, is it worth it ? given the cost ?

I was in a similar position as you.

I had one 670 and wanted a bit of a boost untill Dx12 comes out and Win9.

It was either a second 670 or a 780. I game at 1200p so I made the decision based on resolution/vram to go cheap and get a second 670.

I would suggest the same for you and get a 7970. HOWEVER you are at a higher res than me.

So maybe investing in a card with only 2Gb of vram isnt a good choice.

I guess it depends on price. If you can get a 7970 uber cheap, then go for it, if not I would sell the 7970 and get a 290 / 780 etc...

his 7970 has 3GB ram, get a 2nd for now whilst there cheap.

I'm holding onto my two for a while before I can get a single card that is on par/faster than my crossfire set up.

a 7970 will xfire with a 280x (they're the same card lol)
most 280x are going for 130 quid (or less if you wanna drive a hard bargain) on MM atm =)

Really that cheap? DAMN!!! I need to get myself MM access pronto, I'm currently running a 7970 Platinum and seriously want to add another for my first ever dual GPU/crossfire setup :D
I don't really need another card, but want one
