I’ll start with my current system specs:
I7 920 running at 3.8Ghz
Gigabyte EX58-UD5
12GB Ram
GTX 680
OCZ Vertex SSD
Now, the vertex failed on me earlier in the week (it’s the second one I’ve had fail) so instead of going through the RMA route again, I decided to just replace it with a newer and faster SSD and settled on a Samsung 830.
The thing is, my motherboard doesn’t have sata3 so I’m not sure how much of a performance gain I’m going to see over my original vertex. It certainly won’t be performing to its maximum abilities. So here's my choices.
Option 1
Buy a new mobo that supports sata3. The gigabyte guerrilla looks like a winner here.
Option 2
Upgrade to ivy bridge. If I’m going down the new motherboard route then why not? Money isn’t really an issue but i'm happy with my 920 and was holding off for haswell.
Option 3
Do nothing, just run the new SSD at sata 2 speeds for now and stick to the haswell plan.
What would you do?
