Worth upgrading an E4300 with only £100?

Could i suggest a cheaper option. Asus P5N-E Sli. I have a 4300 nicely doing 3.2ghz with it. I think all the allendale cores are meant to hit 2.8ghz - 3ghz, dunno tho, could get a 2nd hand one very cheap!

Edit: way off the pace!:p
Edit Edit i really dont know how i thought this was a recent thread.

Funnily enough, I was just going to add to this thread anyway, so thanks for bringing it to the front page:D

No news from Asus on the dead board yet, but I have been comfortably running 3.4ghz for the last few weeks. As my birthday is coming up I was looking at cpu options again - the prices are terrible aren't they?!?

I'm looking at e8400 or Q6600 (although it's for gaming, so dual core is probably best) unless anyone can suggest a better sweet spot between price and performance?

Thanks

I would still stick with what you have. If you are at 3.4Ghz you are not going to notice much improvement, if any at all, by getting a cpu to 4Ghz. As you say, the prices are terrible now. I paid just under £140 for my E8500 and now it's at £172.49. Even i would'nt pay that.

13011 is'nt too bad. It seems to have a problem with the latest ATI cards. There was a guy posting the other day with a more powerful rig than you and a 4870 and he got less than 12k. Like you say though, 3dmark does'nt really mean anything. It's not a true indication of real world performance. Try running some of the game benchies for a true indicator.

Good idea, I'll give that a try. Thanks again for the help.
