Hi all,

At the moment I am running:
I5 4690k @ stock with Prolimatech 81 cooler that I added 2 Noctua NF-F12 fans, Plan to OC
16GB Ram @ 2133mhz
KFA2 GTX 970
Gigabyte z97x-Gaming 5 motherboard

I game at 1080p on 27 inch monitor, anything worth upgrading? Reason for asking is some newer game like Mass Effect Andromeda dont seem to run very well in terms of graphics.

First thing is to get that 4690k clocked ;)

Does your monitor have Gsync?

It's a great CPU - i would stick in a GTX 1070 as you would get a massive FPS boost/performance bump - and be able to play all games on Ultra at 1080p. MA Andromeda is very demanding so there would definitely be benefits to be had there.

Plus, if you ever jumped to 1440p gaming - the 1070 would still be able to munch through the games on Ultra (perhaps some tweaks) coupled with your (clocked) CPU.

Nope monitor is not Gsync :(
Last time I overclocked a cpu was the q6600 come out so have no idea were to start with the 4690k. I have been looking at the 1070 and looks like a good possibility.
And 1440p would also be on the cards then with the 1070.

The 4690k is a lot easier to overclok than the q6600 - so you'll have no problems attaining a moderate clock once you've browsed threads/youtube. Or do a dedicated thread to let us guide you etc... It's not the fine balancing BIOS process it used to be - unless you're going for big clocks.

You don't have to get a 1440p monitor - or Gsync - i only mentioned it so that if you had upgrades in the future you know the GTX 1070 would cover them. Bonus.

I game with a GTX 1070 on a Dell Ultrasharp 1440p @ 60Hz - more than happy. As i would be if it was only at 1080 - as long as it was IPS - i've been spoilt now and couldn't go back...

I do like a bonus:)
Sounds good to me making a thread and getting good help from you guys then I know I can trust in the information you guys give:) I shall make a thread now.

unless your a fps freak, at 1080p - your build still has it!

I would put money in pot and save for a complete new build. Hate adding to an old architecture. Wouldn't take much to go the ryzen 1600 route

I have been thinking the same in a way, maybe just oc the cpu to get more performance
