Worth upgrading CPU?

I have a 2500k CPU with a ASRock H61 Pro BTC Motherboard.

I was thinking of upgrading it and buying a better CPU cooler and over clocking.

I'm looking to beef up my PC for a VR setup.

What could I upgrade to for say £150 from the used market?

You'd get a 3770k for about £150 used.

if you can get a 3770k and its good with your mobo for 100 ish quid id do that. or save and wait for total upgrade.150 bit strong id put that to a new upgrade tbh.

Get a used Z 1155 mobo and clock the 2500k, good increase in performance from stock clock to over 4Ghz.

Can you overclock on a H61 motherboard?

No, you need P67/Z68/Z77 to overclock. A Z77 board would be my recommendation but you are stuck with what you can pick up second hand and the prices good boards have been going for are steep.

I would say just overclock the 2500k if you can find a cheap mobo (under £40). Otherwise go for a new CPU/mobo - even without overclocking them they will perform 20% better compared to a same frequency lga1155 CPU
