Hiya, just got a lovely new monitor, 20 inch ws and now run things in 1680x1050 :) I have been pushing my gf 6600gt pci express a bit i suppose and think its time i took the plunge for a new graphics card to run that monitor (my main pc is pentium4 3.0, 1 gig ram) anyway, would a change from 6600gt to something like the 7900gtx be worth it or wait for gf8? never a long wait anyway.

I dont think the gx2 are worth it really so if i am going to get a new one might as well get the better I can right now without killing the bank, thougth about gtx extremes but are hard to get.

Any thoughts if the expense is worth it or just get an ati :p

help appreciated as ever

I had a 6800LE which performs around the same as the 6600GT. I upgraded it to a X1800XT and it has made a huge difference....the Conroe E6300 might also have helped :D If you're planning to game on your 20" monitor then I really would go for the X1900XT which is at a great price. Certainly you will need that extra power for games like Oblivion if you plan to run it at the native res.

All comes down to your budget at the end of the day.

I posted yesterday asking what to go for and everyone said x1900xt over any of the Nvidia cards simply because of the performance and pricing difference.

Was viewing my friends new x1800xt yesterday and was really impressed with the performance hike it gave him. Oblivion ran like clockwork with eveything max'ed out. And he's only got at best a medium level PC.

X1900xt should go beyond that I would imagine.

the best value card out at the moment is the X1800XT @ £149 its faster than a 7900GT, you can do more things with it, and you have a good chance of it actually working when you get it out of the box :)
