worth upgrading from a 1900xtx to a 2900?

spec in the sig, so ideally would like to be playing at 1920x1200, but obviously that's pushing things with my current card.

I'm worried about:

a) the length of the 2900, as i have 6 hard disks in my case and my 1900 gets within about 2 or 3 inches of the hard disks.
b) my psu - i currently have a 600w seasonic - will all the necessary adaptors come with the card? Is that enough power?
c) are the mountings for the fan the same as the 1900xtx? I would like to just be able to swap across my waterblock onto the 2900, without any hassle. It's a low profile maze4 block.
d) is it really worth it? Considering i should get 80-100 for my 1900xtx, and would only be spending about 200 on the 2900, it's not TOO expensive as an upgrade. Is it worth it given my CPU? What kind of difference am i likely to see at my native res?

Thanks

Didn't Tom|NBK run some wattage tests showing that the whole power hungry thing was a load of bull?

It uses a little more but not that much.

Seeing as my Antec Truepower II 550W can run the 2900XT fine with 4 drives, wireless card, sound card and a heavily overclocked C2D then I reckon you'll be fine ;)

Your only problem might be the waterblock. People have had to shave some corners off their waterblocks to make them fit IIRC.

Length wise it's not as long as a GTX I don't think. Not at home so I can't measure mine exactly. It's either 10 or 12 inches.

No idea and no idea why he runs on a 300-350watt PSU, lucky he doe not blow it and take all hardware down with it.

330watt min and 330watt rec were AMD spec in 2001 when I has a Thunderbird DDR chip lol, and you can see others in this forums mentioning in threads about PSU's being underpowered.

thanks guys. To be honest, if i have to fiddle around with modding my water block then i don't think i'll actually bother. I'll just leave it and do a full system upgrade a little later down the line.

Honestly, how do you manage with a X1900XTX at that Rez?? I have X1900XT in Crossfire and still fine the performance isn't as good as I want it, and I only play at 1440x900 (I couldn't care less if I get 200fps+ most of the time, it's the times that it goes down to 20fps that I care about).

what game(s) bring a crossfire x1900xt setup down to 20fps at 1440x900!?

Lol, FEAR at max settings, only in certain places thought - it's probably an a problem with the game.

Lol! And I thought I was fussy...

My single X1900XT is fine playing FEAR, albeit not 100% maxed out, a few compromises here and there, you don't notice much of a difference graphics/effects wise, but you do with the FPS. :p

You'd be surprised at how many games the X1900XT gives playable framerates at 1920x1200, not modern games, not FEAR, but CSS and such it's more than adequate. :)

Lol, it was mainly disappointment for that fact that I thought that at that resolution, I should fly through everything fine. Then I get a lovely slowdown here and there... :(. It cuts through everything else fine though. Even stalker.

Only the games that don't support still struggle though. Cough Armed Assault cough.

Ps: I just got stung by a boddy wasp on the back of the next at 4.50am...of all the.....I thought it was a mossie at first and though "OMG I've got AIDS", then phew, saw it was a wasp.
****** tried to escape through the window but I cut him off, held him down with the germolene box and gas the ***t with some Lynx anti-perspirant.

That'll teach him.

Stung twice. Sore one m8. Once by the wasp and the other by Armed Assault :D .

Why not sell your crossfire setup and put a few quid in and get the 640mb 8800GTS or 8800GTX in fact?.

Lol, Because I'm saving getting a 8800GTS/8800GTX/HD2900XT for my 3rd rig which currently has a E4300/2gig/X1900XT 256mb.

My Corssfire setup is my 2nd Rig.

That reminds me, does anybody know of anybody looking to buy a X1900XT 256mb or/and X1800XL with cu700 Zalman??.

Okay, from now on when anyway calls the 2900XT a power hungry monster I'm just going to post this image:
