Hey guys,

I'm wondering what kind of performance improvement I'd see if I upgraded my aging 3930K (@4.2Ghz) to something like Ryzen 7 or even something like a 8700K when it's released?

The most demanding thing the PC does is run games so not sure it'll be worth it but wanted other peoples opinions.
Also I'm running samsung green 1600Mhz so if I do decide to upgrade I could double that speed to 3200Mhz which might make some difference

Any thoughts?
Cheers.

Ok, I have a freesync screen and would like to keep it so my upgrade options are Vega56 or 64, not at all compelling at their current price points.

Guess I'm waiting still.

3930k is still a cracking card :)

I was looking at the 1700 as an upgrade path but I'm hanging fire for a while yet.

Surprising really how little improvement there is, the 3930K came out, what, 5/6years ago and is 5 generations old.

Good for me (and others) in a way, means our hardware isn't obsolete immediately but from an enthusiast perspective it's dull.

We are seeing a race to bottom just now. Ryzen has brought 8 core 16 thread chips at £250 ish and really disrupted markwt in a big way.

Not worth it, especially with DX12 becoming more common. I'm on a 3930k (4.4GHz) with a Fury P and at 2560x1080 and really don't anticipate upgrading anything soon. I imagine we'll run out of VRam before anything else becomes a problem.
