Worth upgrading from a 4850?

Hey everyone,

I've had my 4850 installed for a while now and was checking out to see what's going on with gfx just of late.

Looks like prices are pretty high for the newest level of cards.

But, a 5770 caught my eye as being about the right price range.

With Direct X9 gaming, do you think I'd notice much by going up to a 5770? I say dx9 because I'm still on xp.

Cheers.

A HD4850 to a HD5770 is not worth the jump unless your current card is struggling with anything.

Just to clarify a HD5770 is roughly equivilant to a HD4870 which is roughly ~10-20% quicker than your HD4850 in most games.

The HD5770 doesd have other benefits such as lower power consumption, lower temperatures and a quieter cooler. I assume you would be looking at around £60 to upgrade (£110 for HD5770 with ~£50 back for your HD4850 if you sold in the MM).

Whether the benefits outweigh the purchase cost is only something you can justify.

Thanks oweneades.

I'm getting tempted just for the quieter fan tbh.
The asus 4850 I got when these cards were first released seems to be knocking out some volume.

All the best.
