Worth upgrading from a 690 to 780ti?

I got a gigabyte gtx 690...had it for a year.

I'm thinking i should sell my 690 and upgrade to a gtx 780ti because these cards have roughly the same performance and the 690 only has 2gb of vram, whereas the 780ti has 3gb so it may be more futureproof as i can SLI in the future aswell.

Currently gaming on a 1080p monitor but i may get a 1440p one in the future.

Is it worth it?

I have seen nothing that makes the 690 redundant at 1080P or even 1600P with only 2GB of usable VRAM. That's not to say things won't change in the future though and the 780Ti is a cracking card and not far off from a stock 690 either.

The one plus of selling the GTX 690 now is that you would re-coup more money than if you kept it another year etc. If you could sell it for near the cost of a single 780ti it might be worth the swap, single GPU is a better experience imho, more vram as well..

You sig says you have 4gb gtx 690 so you must be confusing yourself..

It has 2GB of vram per GPU. it doesn't double when you combine more than 1 GPU, i.e it is limited to a 2GB frame buffer.

If you can get a good amount of the money for the 690 I think it's a serious option. A good clocking 780 Ti is not far off a 690 which is pretty special for a single GPU. The extra GB of vram could be useful for the games that come out a year from now. But then there will be better 20nm cards by then I suspect, so it's a balance of getting a reasonable amount for the 690, but also staying in touch with the higher demands next gen games will probably give.

The yet to be released 780 Ti Windforce Ghz edition is particularly mouth watering boosting at around 1200Mhz from stock, if you want out of the box epicness.

OcUK got exclusive 780 Ghz editions so I hope they can sort a deal out with Gigabyte to get these in. BTW TTL from oc3d would be the first to notice that the Ghz edition writing is the wrong way around when put in the case and of course talks about if for about 5 mins in his video review :D
