Feels like iv had this CPU for so long now and iv been thinking about upgrading lately. It's running at a speed of 4.6 and its still a pretty decent CPU but I usually upgrade every few years and it feels like I'm due for a new CPU and Motherboard.
Would it be worth it upgrading now or should I wait for the new ones launching in Q1 next year? I'm curious how much difference I would see if I upgraded now compared to waiting.

Really wouldn't bother unless you need the extra threads and are planning on an i7 (if you are asking if you do, then you don't). Even sandy bridge to skylake is almost no difference in games at the same clocks, so ivy to skylake will be even smaller. 4.6 Seems like a good speed, no need to change.

This^

Stay where you are until next gen.

wpildnt bother unless you going to something like x99 for editing or other reasons that benefit.

gaming wise wont be nothing to make it struggle for 2 years yet.

Nope, I still own a 2500k which is still good, You should upgrade something else in your system maybe with the money or a new mouse/kb or something.

I ...like the guy above am still on 2500k overclocked to 4.2, no real reason for me to upgrade yet, still waiting for something that really make a night and day difference personally.

It's not worth upgrading unless you do plenty of CPU intensive tasks such as video editing, etc.

If you must upgrade I recommend the 5820K due to the extra cores.

Cheers

Thanks for the help everyone. Theres nothing really else to upgrade in my system at the moment. I'm running 2 x 290 cards in crossfire which still max out every game. SSD, Razer Mamba wireless mouse which has lasted me many years. Equator Studio monitor speakers which sound amazing and a Samsung 3440x1440 ultrawide screen.

The oldest part of my system is the Ram/Cpu/Motherboard which was a OCUK combo I bought a few years ago.

My next upgrade is probably going to be a similar DDR4/Motherboard/CPU combo but if its not worth upgrading at the moment then ill probably wait till next year.
I am finding 8GB is starting to struggle now as I get the low memory warning when I have a lot of things open and playing video at the same time ect.

I think ill wait till next year then.

Simply put the money into something else for now or save it. Utterly pointless upgrade for upgrades sake especially since what you have. Nice to upgrade but hold fire even if you really "feel" the need.

You sure...? Your RAM doing alright? :p

So... another 8GB, perhaps?
I admit I only went to 16 because it meant more flashy ligts, but it's not done my rig any harm...

Also - Have you watercooled it all?
Did my own 3570K recently, including delidding it - WICKED fun and WICKED results!!! :D
