4870 512 to a 5850 1gb

my rig is q6700 at 3.6 ghz

4 gb ram

i want to play arma 2 at max i game at 1900x1200 and the 512 4870 is struggling ?
thanks:D

Yes its worth it. I think at that res 512mb starts to struggle, You can always ummph the 5850 past 1ghz too if need be but i doubt youll need to.

Benchmarks have shown it to be considerably faster than the 512mb version - proably why I'm starting to sniff round the 5850's ;)

The 512 is by no means a slouch - the performance of GDDR5 mem meant they could get away with a smaller amount on board at the time, but we're a year on now :) For £190 the card was an absolute bargain.

The 5850 is better and has 1gb ram.

However it isnt THAT much more powerful. The 512mb on the 4870 may be the reason its chugging a bit though.

The 512mb will defo be the main reason it is slowing things down. It didn't quite cut it for me with running at 16XX by 10XX res so with Arma2 and the res the OP is using then it must be uphill all most of the way. This depends also, of course, if you like most eye candy enabled or have fairly high standards which, I think is fair to say, most gamers actually do.:)

yep definitely - just gone to a HD5870 1gb from a 4870 PCS 512 and believe me it's worth it on Vram intensive stuff (e.g. Oblivion with QTP3) - no more texture loading stutters
