As title. I'm currently running the following so was wondering if it was worth upgrading the CPU?

Gigabyte GA-P31-D3SL motherboard
2 x 2gb OCZ PC2-6400 ram @ 1000MHz (4x250) with 5-4-4-18 @2.1v
E2220 2.4GHz CPU @ 3GHz (12x250)
Inno3d GTS250 512mb oc'd to 792/1256/1965 (possibly upgrading to a 4890 soon)
Win XP 32bit sp3

Would I notice much of a performance increase in gaming (currently Crysis) and/or desktop apps use?

Fast Dual Core with more cache mem and yes things will improve enough to make it worth while, your budget P31 motherboard is really decent for overclocking dual cores with multi's of 9x or higher imo. But then you may well get same results with just the 4890, upgrade both area's and your be happy I'm sure.

Cheers for that. Looking at a second hand e7200 that's going for £64, worth upgrading to do you think?

Have a read of my thread here. Intel dual core cpu's tested are E2000/4000/5000/6000/8000 series at varying clockspeeds. Crysis is one of the benchmarks. Unfortunately a E7000 series is not tested but you will get a idea of what you would gain.

Wow, that's awesome, thanks for that. Reckon I might see what price I can haggle the e7200 down to but it may not be worth it unless I can get a bargain.

Think I may try a bit more overclocking on my cpu, as that would be the most rewarding path to faster speeds :D
