Hey all, currently running a Q6600 in a Gigabyte EP43-S3L motherboard with 8GB of DDR2 RAM.

May be able to get hold of a brand new i7 950 for about £60, just wondering if its a worth while upgrade baring in mind i'll have to upgrade my motherboard etc along with it?

Or am I better off bypassing that gen and jumping straight up to the i5 2500k/i7 2600k? As that will require a new motherboard, RAM etc anyway and can imagine the cost of which is comparable to what i'll need for the i7 950.

I would skip that gen and go i5 2500k/i7 2600k or you could wait for ivybridge?

The 1155 socket that the i5 2500k/i7 2600k use also supports ivybridge.

I went from an Q6600 to an i7. I've go to say that the Q6600 was and still is a fantastic processor. But for me I wanted to upgrade to DDR3 and USB3 etc, so In your position, if you can afford it, upgrade for the sake of all the 3's lol
